Hey.
What a world.
In an effort to find some life and light in the moment, my new project is a call-and-response with a third grader.
And that third grader is me.
Last Christmas, I found a pile of writing — mostly stories that I never finished — that I wrote when I was in third grade.
And it’s hilarious.
In this series of installments, I’m going to share a piece of some writing I did as a third grader and then follow up a few days later with some writing I’m going to do as an adult as a continuation of the story I started when I was little.
I hope it entertains.
Here goes.
The Haunted Garden
by Erin Hade, circa 1990? Maybe?
Ann Silver was ready to get out of the Silver’s brand-new black Jaguar car when that fragrant brand-new smell overwhelmed her to stay in it. “Ummm.” She thought. “Mom, can I stay and enjoy this buetiful smell of this buetiful, well chosen, well costed, well … um … thought of car?” She wanted to be enthusiastic about it because her mother didn’t truely like the car.
“Yes. Bomber, I don’t really like the color black, though. Bomber, I want you to know that I don’t really like this car —” She turned around and stared Ann straight in the eye.
“Mom, I know that you don’t like it but Dad, Molly, Jay, and Kate and I do. It’s five to one.” Ann said smartly and coaxily to her mother.
“Jay! No, no, no, no! Bad boy! Bad bad boy!” Mrs. Silver burst out. Jay, the youngest at the age 3, was puking on the side of the house. Jay usually got car sick if he was in an unfamiliar car or in a new one. Sometimes when jay got sick he accidentally did it in the car. Sometimes, when he was thinking, he could get into the house and into the bathroom just in time. But today he only got to the side of the house.
That was page one. Don’t worry, there’s 33 handwritten pages to get to.
Jay is my favorite.
Where would you go with this?
I’ll be back with my addition in a few days.
