I’m still writing my 40-word project, from now until my 40th birthday.
Here are the pieces I wrote since the last newsletter.
“Gone Snake Gone”
When I found my escaped pet snake sunbathing in our family room, one might assume that, it being my pet, I’d easily approach it. Instead, I ran away. My mother, equally afraid, ignored my shrieks.
We never found the snake.
“Haunted House”
The haunted house I’m hosting this year features a seven-year-old coming home and asking how, exactly, boys help girls make babies. The scariest part is the basement door swinging shut as your husband scutters down the steps, leaving you alone.
“Pasts and Futures”
The couple stands together. He says about his father, “He is shrinking. He forgets to eat.” She says about their daughter, “She’s getting older, and wants to do everything by herself.” They speak about pasts and futures in the present.
Thanks for reading. What are you writing lately?
